The Blackhawk and Central City Blog

November 29

I discovered that what the Sanborne map indicated as the "Public Survey Works" was really named the Chamberlain Survey Works, so it is now labeled correctly.

Construction continues - the spike gangs have almost reached the Cashier Mill - hopefully they'll arrive there sometime this week (weather permitting). The tie gangs have made much better time - the lower clear creek siding, Randolph mill/Chamberlain works, and the New York Mill have all had ties laid (the spike gangs are seriously falling behind). I pulled out the bench work for upper Blackhawk yard (screws are a wonderful thing) so that I could survey up to the entrance of lower Blackhawk yard. I'm not quite done grading that run yet - need to finish the shims and then I can put down roadbed. My plan is to bring the spike gangs up and finish this section next so that I can put the bench work back.

Lower Blackhawk yard is getting redesigned (again) - This *will* be the last time as I'm going to build whatever I decide on. I've chosen the industries for the back scene - the right spur will go to the Feed and Hay shop as it did in the prototype, while the left spur will be a team track in front of a small warehouse and the Colorado House (a hotel). This is very close to the prototype - I've moved a few building around.
