The Blackhawk and Central City Blog

November 14

Well folks, I've achieved another milestone on the Blackhawk & Central City: track construction was completed over the weekend - all the spikes are in. I've even run a test truck over the track to catch any place where the inner spikes would be sitting proud. So, those tools are away and I'm drilling holes for feeder wire (fun, fun, fun).

#4 has it's decoder, and I still need to finish #6 but it's being difficult. While doing that I am working on the modifications to the C-16 cylinders - I made one test unit and it looks good. The next step is putting the bushings in the crossheads so I can check the main rod fit.

For mounting all of this, I'm planning on putting holes in the frame brace, the cylinder block and, the saddle so that I can mount all to the box front with a single bolt/nut arrangement. I'm still trying to decide the right size and length, so any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.

Speaking of which, I can't find cast saddles to match the box fronts I'm going to be using (PSC doesn't list them as far as I can see), so it's looking like I'm going to have to machine ones from rectangular brass bars. Any pointers/ideas on this (like if you know of a saddle that will fit a PSC #31420 front) will also be appreciated.
