Construct roof door using scale 2"x12" boards cut to size and edge glued, with a piece of scale 2"x2"
as a batten. Back the door with three pieces of 4"x4" attached with white glue to hold the door in place when closed. |
 |
The fixed scale 20' ladder is constructed from scale 4"x4" rails and attaching a 2"x4" rung every
foot with white glue. |
 |
The filler pipe is milled from 1/8" brass rod. First, taper to scale 6" over scale 6' feet and then mill
extra scale 1' at scale 6" for pipe end. Cut off and bend pipe end into shape. The retaining ring is built by using a #43
bit to center drill 1/8" brass rod. Then mark off 1mm lengths and cut with jeweler's saw. Slide ring onto filler pipe
and attach with CA. |
 |
The control stand begins as a scale 6"x6" post cut scale 12' in length. Attach a scale 2"x6" cross post 1' length
at 8.5 feet up (both scale measurements). The control arm begins as a scale 2"x6" 9' long. Miter the arm from 5' in to
scale 3" at the edge. Cut a kerf in top of the control stand to a depth of scale 1' for the control arm. Widen this
kerf with a sharp hobby knife until the control arm fits. Then, drill a #75 pivot hole down scale 6" from top and pin
the arm to the stand with .020 brass wire. Leave the wire proud to model the NBW. |
 |
The filler pipe connector is a 3mm metal bead attached to scale 9" of 3/64" brass rod with CA. If necessary,
drill out bead with #53 bit. |
 |
Roof finials are made by attach a 1.75 mm bead to two pieces of 1/32" brass rod with CA. The bottom piece of rod
is scale 9" in length while the top is scale 1' and tapered to a point with a mini-file by hand. |
