Pilots

Since the smokebox front, stack, and saddle are all brass, the pilots are made out of wood to reduce front-end weight. In addition, it protects from a short if the pilot should make contact with the rails.

The pilot footer is made from two beveled 3"x8" pieces.
The horizontal backing is made from 3"x10" and the vertical backing is made from 3"x6".
Pilot Ribs are made from pairs of beveled 2"x6".
Add a 12"x18" mounting block to the back of the horizontal back, drill a 1/16" hole in the center of the horizontal back, and mount the front coupler pocket.
The pilot gets painted wine color before it gets mounted.

Smokebox and stack

The smokebox/saddle tank front, smokebox door and engine numbers are detail parts from Precision Scale (Catalog numbers 31402, 32403, 31347 and 31348). The engine number is mounted in the center of the smokebox door and Flat brass is cut to size and soldered in place to adapt the smokebox door to the front.
The smoke box door/engine number subassembly is inserted into a mounting hole drilled in the flat brass.
The stack is another detail part from Precision Scale (Catalog number 3598)
The latern and the mounting platform are more parts from Precision Scale (Catalog numbers 31633 and 31306). Once assembled, the latern is mounted with brass wire acting as pegs, inserted into holes drilled into the smokebox/saddle tank front.
The headlight is a Golden white 603 SLED, wired with 38 gauge magnet wire. access holes are drilled in the lantern back and the smoke box front and the wire glued in place.
The stack part of the front end is painted wine, and the rest painted gold.
